Charlie's Clothes

I bought this cute book on the day after the visit to St Patrick.

Let me show you snippets of this book.

"Charlie's Clothes" by Liesbet Slegers

This brightly coloured artwork has a childlike quality and depicts a preschooler's view of the world. The simple theme draws the attention of very young children.

Here we go!

What does Charlie wear when it rains?

What does Charlie wear on his birthday?

And what does Charlie wear when he takes a bath?

NOTHING of course!

Haha

XOXO,

The Narcissist who's still in love with her new pink pencil case

Present from Japan!

My cousin's back from Japan! She bought this super cute pencil case for me!!!

I love it!!!

I was chatting with my colleague...

We were discussing about the trip to St Patrick's School and the overall experience/insights we have gained from this trip. Even though it was just a brief 40 minutes session with them, their laughter was infectious! As I am the one in-charge of analysing the data of the 4 boys, I have watched the video and listened to the audio for so many times and amazingly, I'm not bored with it at all! I'm so happy to receive a reply from one of the boys. He's very sweet.

That's his reply:

"Haha! Dont worry about it. I guess we had quite a fun time ourselves as well!
Thanks for the experience you've given us and

Well, its now holidays :P"

=) If I have the chance to teach in a secondary school, I will definitely apply for St Patrick. As the PE t-shirts suggest,

One more added to my address book

Yuzhi gave me his address! One more added to my address book. =D
He's so funny! The below was his response when I asked for his address.

I look like one animal now!

Only referring to the eyes of the panda not the cuteness. *sulk*

I don't care! I am going to replenish my sleep this weekend!

=(

I don't have time for my drama series! I missed 3 episodes of it in a row this week.

According to Aloysius, it's finally holiday for those who are in Secondary Schools. How I wish I am having holiday too... I can't wait for 19th November to come!

BTW, thank you for replying to my email, Aloysius! Enjoy your holiday! =D

The Analysis

It's time to start to analyse the recording we did at St Patrick!
Since I was sitting with the group of 4 boys on that day, I've decided to listen to the recording of their group discussion first. Their conversation was very entertaining and interesting! Hehe. What a pity I didn't interact with them much that day because of the time constraint. I would like to know them more since they seem rather friendly. =)

Sick

I am having fever! *sob*

I guess I have to see the doctor tomorrow. =(

I'm EXHAUSTED!

Early in the morning, I travelled from North (My House) to East (St Patrick's School). After that, took cab from East (St Patrick) to West (My School). Then, took cab again from West (My School) back to North (My Home)! It's horribly tiring! Tomorrow is another long day... *sob*

St Patrick's School is great!

Good afternoon boys and girls!

Miss Leong is in such a good mood today! Guess what time I woke up this morning? 4am! Gosh!

I reached St Patrick's School at around 730am. I love the school! Take a look at this beautiful school!

The boys working on their comic strips ...

The boys viewing their classmates' comic strip ...

The boys with their final products!

I really enjoyed myself today!

Maybe I should teach in an all-boys secondary school for a change? I am seriously considering it. Meanwhile, I will just enjoy teaching the cute kids in primary schools. =)

XOXO,
Miss Leong

Singapore Colloquial English (Singlish)

Q: Why is our Westerner friend unable to speak 'Singlish' properly?

A: It is because he doesn't know the grammar of Singlish!

Singaporeans know where to put the 'lah, lor, what' and others in a sentence because of the grammatical rules of Singlish. Singlish is a key ingredient in the unique melting pot that is Singapore. Singlish is mostly borrowed from Hokkien, Cantonese and Malay to indicate the attitude to what is being said. Most Singaporeans regards Singlish as a marker of national identity.

xoxo

Did you know?

Amazing Facts!

  1. The sentence "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" uses every letter of the alphabet. (It was developed by Western Union to test telex/twx communications.)
  2. 111,111,111 x 111,111,111 = 12,345,678,987,654,321
  3. The phrase "rule of thumb" is derived from an old English law which stated that a man couldn't beat his wife with anything wider than his thumb.

The importance of Punctuation!

In English, punctuation is vital to disambiguate the meaning of sentences.

Example 1:

An English professor wrote the words "a woman without her man is nothing" on the whiteboard and directed his students to punctuate it correctly.

All the males in the class wrote: "a woman, without her man, is nothing."
All the females in the class wrote: "a woman: without her, man is nothing."

Example 2:

A panda walks into a cafe. He orders a sandwich, eats it, then draws a gun and proceeds to fire it at the other patrons.

"Why?" asks the confused, surviving waiter amidst the carnage, as the panda makes towards the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder.

"Well, I'm a panda", he says, at the door. "Look it up."

The waiter turns to the relevant entry in the manual and, sure enough, finds an explanation. "Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves."

Can you get the jokes? =P

Intended meaning for example 2 is

Panda eats shoots and leaves.
(Noun) (Verb) (Noun) (Conjunction) (Noun)

not what the panda had interpretated as

Panda eats, shoots and leaves.
(Noun) (Verb) (Verb) (Conjunction) (Verb)

St Patrick's School

Tomorrow I am going to St Patrick's School located at the East of Singapore! This will be my first time going to an all-boys school! I am so excited!

My camera is with my cousin. I will try to ask my colleagues to bring camera so I can upload some photos of the visit tomorrow. =)
